Lzzy Hale Speaks Out About the Grammys

When nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards were announced last month, no one was more surprised to see Halestorm’s “Uncomfortable” get a nod than the band’s namesake, Lzzy Hale.

Following the group’s 2013 win for “Love Bites (So Do I),” the Recording Academy eliminated the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal category, leaving just four honors designated for rock performers.

“When that category went away, we thought, ‘Well, that’s not going to happen again. We ruined it,'” Hale says. “We’re in an interesting time because there are so many different genres and subgenres, but a lot of that doesn’t even matter any more. It’d be great to have more categories in the rock and metal category — but I don’t want that job, picking where everybody is supposed to go.”

“The 61st Annual Grammy Awards” is set to air February 10 on CBS.

Do you think rock is getting a raw deal from the Recording Academy? Do you foresee the genre bouncing back?
