Weezer Does Africa, So Toto Does Hash Pipe

Weezer has  been playing their hit cover of Toto’s “Africa”, as well as covers of the Turtles’ “Happy Together” and A-ha’s “Take On Me”on their current tour.

Their version of “Africa” took off big time, and it’s currently #1 on the Alternative chart; it’s Weezer’s biggest hit in years after a viral internet campaign convinced them to record it..

Toto has finally completed the circle of cover-song life, debuting their cover of Weezer’s “Hash Pipe” at Monday night’s show in Vancouver. Guitarist Steve Lukather told the crowd “We figured since we were smoking hash since before they were born, that’s the one we should do”. The cover is a response to Weezer’s cover of Toto’s 1982 classic “Africa.”

So who wins the cover-song battle, Toto or Weezer?

Who did it better?
